Description
The left upper corner of the Orthopedics Display provides an overview and the primary focus of an Orthopedic Surgeon. Local, retired Orthopedic surgeons Dr. John Kagan and Dr. Abbott Kagan are the major contributors to this display. To the right of their historical OR photo is a brief description of the unique anatomy and pathology of joints. The Normal Knee and Hip Anatomy is detailed in two story boards which include both a labeled anatomical artist representation of the Normal Knee and Hip. The right side of each storyboard shows a corresponding X-ray image of the normal knee and hip joints with detailed labels.
The transition to the second shelf includes two story boards that describe normal knee and hip anatomy and function. Each of these two storyboards includes a QR code providing access to YouTube videos showing an animation of the movement of the normal knee and hip joints.
The second shelf features an example of an early artificial hip along with a storyboard offering a brief history of this procedure in Great Britain and later the U.S. A QR code enables access to a brief animation that illustrates the hip replacement process from the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons. Improvements in the hip prosthesis follow, to the right, with the inclusion of the brief history of an un-cemented total hip replacement and a relevant artificial hip artifact. A larger QR code provides access to the Total Hip replacement animation mentioned earlier. Finally, a disarticulated artifact provides a view of the 4 major components of the artificial hip prosthesis in front of a storyboard displaying the before and after images of a successful prosthetic repair to the right hip.
