Description
Pictured is a Palmaz balloon-expandable coronary stent, as supplied by Johnson & Johnson in its collapsed state, before deployment. A coronary artery stent is a tiny, expandable wire mesh tube used to prop open clogged or narrowed heart arteries. Placed during a procedure called angioplasty, it restores vital blood flow to the heart muscle, relieving chest pain and reducing the risk of a heart attack. An expanded stent (in Lucite) is pictured below.
