Description
A vintage Sanborn Viso-Cardiette EKG machine from the 1940s (with story board) is displayed to the far left of the bottom shelf. Although this EKG machine really belongs on the second shelf with electrocardiographic history, it was too heavy for that glass shelf. It is essentially an electrically-powered single-channel recording device in an ornate wooden cabinet. These mid- 20th Century devices were custom build, for Cardiologists to use in their office or clinic. The wire leads and electrodes that were connected to the patient are stored in two special compartments of the large portable cabinet. The historical explanation for the alternate terms “EKG” and ECG” is explained at the bottom of the story board positioned on top of the Viso-Cardiette.
