Description

This Brass Monocular Microscope (circa 1850s) is only 11.5 inches tall and was portable, designed to be carried in the physician’s bag and used for quick examinations of biopsied specimens and blood. It has a swivel mirror to light the specimen from below. There is another objective to alter the power of magnification as well as two loop lenses for examining larger specimens or parasites during the diagnostic exam. It was donated to the Museum by Dr. Mark Farmer in 2011.
