    Description

The bottom shelf provides two authentic pieces of scientific history featuring a solid wood storage case as well as a partial set of brass precision weights from the renowned Christian Becker Inc. of New York. These weights were originally designed for use with high-accuracy torsion balances, which were the gold standard for laboratory and pharmaceutical measurements throughout the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The vintage scale on the left was donated to the Museum by David F. Carpenter, PhD who was formally the Chief, Division of Laboratories—Illinois Department of Public Health. To the right of the bottom shelf, is a Chainomatic Analytical scale from the 1950s. It was originally used by Dr. Jacob Goldberger as a Medical student. Dr. Goldberger is the co-founder of the Museum of Medical History and this is one of many artifacts he has donated for public display.
