The Image Gallery provides the opportunity for a virtual tour of the Museum of Medical History's artifacts On-Loan within the Southwest Florida community. There are nine large display cases designated for Museum of Medical History artifacts within the public spaces at Gulf Coast Medical Center. Seven of these displays are located within the public elevator access corridors. Each display is designed to “tell a historically relevant story” featuring a profession or medical practice specialty located on each particular floor. A unique group of professionals have collaborated to select artifacts and storyboard content that illustrates and describes the artifacts featured in each display.
For example, a historical treatment for milestones and pioneers of Nursing Practice is located on the first-floor public elevator corridor, accessible from the main lobby. Additional displays include: Trauma and Military Medicine, Historical Milestones for General Surgical Practice, A Brief History of Cardiology Pioneers, Orthopedic Practice for Hip and Knee replacement and A Brief History of Oncology Development, Diagnosis and Treatment of Cancer. Although some featured items are hundreds of years old, the majority of these artifacts represent medical instruments that were primarily utilized during 19th and 20th century practice.
Additional digital displays feature the Development of Anesthesiology Practice and the Museum’s extensive Microscope Collection. They are currently located along the northern-oriented “Community Corridor”, just off the main Hospital Lobby.
These photographs can be individually selected and viewed in a larger frame. They also can be zoomed in on your device for greater clarity and detail, just as if you were viewing them in the Gulf Coast Medical Center.
